Bill Gates' ties to Jeffrey Epstein deeper than known, report says

A law firm investigation has revealed that Microsoft founder Bill Gates and senior staff at his foundation had significantly more contact with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein than previously disclosed.

Nearly 30 meetings over four years

The WilmerHale report, prepared after a five-month inquiry, documented approximately 30 meetings between Gates, foundation officials, and Epstein from 2011 to 2014. More than 50 current and former foundation employees were interviewed, and extensive document reviews were conducted. Epstein was introduced to Gates and foundation staff through a consultant in 2011, with discussions centered on establishing a “Donor-Advised Fund” to channel high-net-worth contributions toward global health initiatives. Meetings took place at the foundation’s Seattle campus and at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse, including a breakfast gathering in December 2014 attended by Gates, foundation staff, and potential donors.

Staff warned of reputational risks

The report noted that Gates was aware of the reputational risks posed by Epstein’s 2008 criminal conviction for sex offenses. Foundation employees repeatedly raised concerns with senior management, yet the contacts continued. Two foundation employees were found to have shared sensitive information and email correspondence with Epstein without the knowledge of Gates or senior leadership, in violation of foundation policies. Investigators found no evidence of any illegal activity, payments to Epstein, or foundation involvement in his crimes.

Epstein’s death and lingering questions

Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in his Manhattan jail cell on August 10, 2019. The FBI and Justice Department ruled his death a suicide, though no conclusive physical evidence was ever made public. The Gates report adds to the broader scrutiny of powerful figures associated with Epstein, whose network has continued to generate controversy years after his death.
