The week-long summit, which will run through July 24, gathers foreign ministers and top diplomats from ASEAN nations and major powers to discuss issues surrounding geopolitical challenges, energy supplies, trade, food, security cooperation, Myanmar civil war and the Five-Point Consensus, as well as and the impacts of US-Iran conflict.

Türkiye’s elevation to Dialogue Partner status at the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila is expected to unlock new trade corridors and deepen economic cooperation with the 11-nation bloc, which commands a combined GDP exceeding $4 trillion and a population of nearly 700 million.

Türkiye secured Dialogue Partner status with ASEAN at the 59th Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila earlier this month, a diplomatic breakthrough expected to accelerate trade and strategic cooperation with the 11-nation Southeast Asian bloc. The designation grants Ankara formal institutional access to a market encompassing nearly 700 million people and a combined economic output exceeding $4 trillion.

Trade flows and sectoral patterns

Bilateral trade volume reached $16.1 billion in 2025, with Turkish exports to the bloc climbing 17.1 percent year-over-year to $2.8 billion and imports surging 50.7 percent to $13.3 billion, according to Anadolu. Precious metals and stones topped Turkish export categories at $419.4 million, followed by mineral fuels at $412.9 million and machinery at $268 million.

Singapore led destination markets with $709.5 million in imports from Türkiye last year, trailed by Malaysia at $629.2 million and Indonesia at $481.2 million. ASEAN comprises Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Timor-Leste.

Investment quadruples

Türkiye’s direct investment in ASEAN member states quadrupled from $106.5 million in 2023 to $410.4 million in 2024, signaling deepening commercial ties. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Malaysia and Indonesia during his 2024 Asia tour, discussing cooperation in energy and the defense industry with both governments.
