Sudan says peace is within reach, hails Türkiye as strategic partner

Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem said the security situation in Sudan is improving and expressed optimism that the country's progress will create new opportunities for deeper cooperation with Türkiye. Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Sudanese Embassy building in Ankara, Salem emphasized that Ankara would remain a key partner in the next phase of Sudan's development.

No talks with RSF

Salem reiterated his government's position that there will be no negotiations with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), saying the group has been legally designated as a terrorist organization. He argued that many of the fighters operating within the RSF are foreign mercenaries, adding, "I don't think it is logical to negotiate with a mercenary on my ground. So, there is no negotiation."

The minister also referred to an initiative submitted to the UN Security Council on Dec. 22, 2025, describing it as a transparent roadmap outlining Khartoum's strategy for addressing the conflict. According to Salem, the proposal reflects the Sudanese government's broader vision for restoring stability and ending the crisis.

Türkiye seen as key reconstruction partner

Salem said he discussed Sudan's comprehensive peace strategy with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation once the conflict subsides. He noted that military advances by government forces have brought the country closer to lasting peace, creating conditions for rebuilding critical infrastructure.

He stressed that Türkiye's expertise in technology, construction and industrial development would make Turkish companies important contributors to Sudan's reconstruction process. "Türkiye is a strategic ally of Sudan," Salem said, adding that Ankara is expected to be among the first international partners involved in the country's rehabilitation in the coming years.
