President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday welcomed the submission of a national solidarity bill to parliament, calling it a significant step toward eliminating terrorism and expressing hope that the measure will reinforce unity and stability across Türkiye and the wider region.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday welcomed the submission of a comprehensive legislative proposal aimed at strengthening national solidarity and social cohesion to the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye. The Turkish leader described the measure as a crucial step toward permanently eliminating the threat of terrorism while reinforcing national unity. The proposed bill emerged from extensive cross-party consultations and seeks to foster a climate of peace and stability both domestically and across the region.

Bill submitted to parliament

In a statement posted on social media following the bill's arrival at parliament, Erdogan said: "Following extensive consultations, the Bill on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Cohesion was submitted today to the consideration of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye with broad consensus reflecting our cherished nation's determination to achieve a lasting resolution." He noted that the proposal garnered support from multiple political factions, signaling a unified approach to addressing security concerns through legislative means.

Counter-terrorism goals

The Turkish president also extended his gratitude to political parties, parliamentary groups and lawmakers who contributed to the preparation and finalization of the proposed legislation, acknowledging their role in building the necessary framework for national unity. "I hope this step, which aims to permanently free Türkiye from the threat of terrorism, reinforce our national unity and solidarity, and strengthen the climate of peace and stability in our country and across the region, will yield positive results," Erdogan stated. Parliamentary discussions on the proposed legislation are expected to commence in the coming days as lawmakers review provisions designed to bolster social cohesion initiatives and counter-terrorism measures.
