A 21-year-old Israeli was arrested for attempted murder after a brawl outside a nightclub in Ayia Napa, Greek Cyprus, that left four injured, including two security guards. The incident comes amid growing concerns over Israeli soldiers using the island for post-war rehabilitation.

A 21-year-old Israeli has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a violent brawl outside a nightclub in Ayia Napa, a coastal town in the Greek Cypriot administration. The fight broke out in the early hours of the morning, and when two security guards intervened, the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed a Cypriot youth and the two guards. A second Israeli was also injured in the clash. One of the guards, aged 41, was stabbed in the abdomen and underwent emergency surgery, according to police.

Israel’s presence on the island

Police also filed additional charges against the suspect for insulting officers and disrupting public order. The incident has drawn attention to the growing Israeli presence in Greek Cyprus, which has reportedly become a rehabilitation hub for Israeli soldiers involved in the Gaza war. Reports of psychologically distressed Israeli troops freely roaming the island have long raised concerns among local residents and authorities. The Greek Cypriot administration has faced criticism for allowing the island to be used as a rest-and-recovery zone for soldiers who participated in the Gaza conflict.
