Two killed in Thailand school shooting as student gunman found dead

A student gunman opened fire at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Thailand's Bang Kruai district on Friday, killing two people and injuring up to 20 others before dying at the scene, local officials and media reported. The shooting unfolded at the school on the northwestern outskirts of Bangkok, prompting teachers to evacuate students and staff from the campus while emergency responders rushed to the scene and confirmed the casualty toll had risen from earlier reports.

Student shooter pronounced dead

Emergency personnel attempted to resuscitate the suspected gunman, who was later pronounced dead, according to the Thai Enquirer. Police identified the suspected shooter as a student at the school and recovered dozens of rounds of ammunition from a bag belonging to the suspect, who had opened fire on the campus in Nonthaburi province, which lies immediately northwest of Bangkok and forms part of the wider metropolitan region.

Investigation ongoing

The Poh Teck Tung Foundation, a Bangkok-based rescue organization, said ambulances transported injured students to nearby hospitals for treatment. The foundation urged motorists in the area to clear roads and allow emergency vehicles unobstructed access to and from the school as police secured the premises and launched an investigation into the circumstances and possible motive behind the shooting.
