Malaysia and Indonesia reiterated their firm backing for the Palestinian cause and the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem during a ministerial gathering in Amman, calling for international unity against Israeli violations in the occupied territories.

Malaysia and Indonesia reaffirmed their unwavering support for Palestine and the protection of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem during a ministerial meeting held earlier this week in the Jordanian capital Amman.

Malaysian position on Jerusalem

Kuala Lumpur maintained that Jerusalem constitutes an integral component of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and rejected any attempts to alter its legal, historical, demographic, or religious character, according to a Foreign Ministry statement posted on Facebook. The Malaysian delegation condemned ongoing violations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements across the occupied territories.

Malaysia voiced strong support for Jordan's Hashemite Custodianship over the holy sites and reiterated its commitment to an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Indonesian warning on division

Indonesia pressed the international community to adopt a unified position against Israeli actions in the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, according to the state-run Antara news agency. Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir said: "Indonesia urged the international community to abandon silence over Israel's violations and not allow itself to become divided in responding to them."

"Division is the crack that Israel has always exploited," Nasir added, warning that fragmentation within the international community undermines efforts to protect Palestinian rights.

Broader diplomatic demands

Jakarta demanded broader international recognition of Palestine, enhanced protection measures for the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and support for Gaza's reconstruction efforts alongside Palestinian reconciliation initiatives. The Indonesian delegation also reaffirmed support for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and Jordan's Hashemite Custodianship of Jerusalem's holy sites.

The Ministerial Meeting in Support of Jerusalem and Its Holy Sites convened earlier this week in Amman with participation from delegations across the Muslim world to coordinate diplomatic responses to Israeli policies in the occupied territories.
