The head of Iran's parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said Saturday that US strikes on Iranian targets during ongoing negotiations expose Washington's blatant disregard for diplomatic principles and ceasefire understandings, warning that such aggression would ultimately bring only "retreat and regret" for American forces.

Ibrahim Azizi, who heads Iran's parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said on Saturday that recent US military strikes conducted during ongoing negotiations demonstrate Washington's complete lack of commitment to ceasefire principles and diplomatic norms, according to Anadolu.

Azizi stated that the US "once again attacked Iran in the middle of negotiations." He added that the "failed US president has shown he has no commitment to the principles of negotiation or a ceasefire," characterizing the military action as a reckless breach of diplomatic protocols.

Warnings of consequences

The senior lawmaker warned that the "reckless violation" of the ceasefire would, "as always, lead to retreat and regret" for the US. "The blame game does not work anymore," he added, dismissing Washington's justifications for the aggression as unacceptable.

Military escalation

His remarks followed a statement by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirming that its naval forces had targeted US military positions across the region in retaliation for American strikes on southern Iran. The US military's Central Command (CENTCOM) said late Friday that American forces struck Iranian missile, drone and radar sites after accusing Tehran of orchestrating an attack on a commercial vessel traversing the Strait of Hormuz, according to Anadolu.
