Sony Pictures' "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has recorded the second-largest global opening weekend in cinema history with $927 million worldwide, falling just short of "Avengers: Endgame" and cementing Marvel Studios' dominance as the film claimed the top spot from "The Odyssey" in the 2026 worldwide rankings.

Sony Pictures' "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" earned $927 million worldwide during its opening weekend to deliver the second-biggest global debut in cinema history, falling just short of the record held by Disney's "Avengers: Endgame" according to final box-office figures released Monday. The superhero sequel has already become the fourth-highest-grossing film of 2026 worldwide, overtaking "The Odyssey" which has earned $911.4 million globally, and gives Marvel Studios four of the largest global openings in history alongside "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Spider-Man: No Way Home."

North American records

The Marvel production generated $355 million across the United States and Canada, capturing the second-largest North American opening behind "Endgame's" $357.1 million milestone set in 2019. Friday receipts reached $169.3 million to establish a new single-day domestic record ahead of the $157.5 million collected by "Endgame" on its opening day, while Saturday brought in $101.5 million and Sunday added $84.2 million from 4,487 locations. The result helped lift overall US and Canadian box-office receipts to nearly $430 million over the weekend, almost three times the previous frame's total, while "The Odyssey" placed second with $51 million to reach $395.5 million domestically.

International performance

Overseas markets contributed $572 million to the total, with China leading at $121 million followed by the United Kingdom at $49 million, Mexico at $38.3 million and India at $31.8 million. France delivered $26.6 million, South Korea $25 million, Brazil $23.8 million and Australia $21.4 million. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige described the performance as "a truly phenomenal opening" in a statement thanking audiences worldwide, adding that the studio now holds four of the largest global openings in history.

Cast and reception

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film marks Tom Holland's fourth standalone appearance as Peter Parker, who fights crime in a world that no longer remembers him while struggling with isolation. Zendaya returns as MJ alongside Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo and Jacob Batalon. The release has earned a 90% critics' score based on 329 reviews and a 98% audience rating from more than 10,000 verified moviegoers on Rotten Tomatoes.
