Narrow confirmation
Blanche received Senate approval in a 50-49 vote. The confirmation places a longtime Trump defender at the helm of the federal law enforcement agency.
"I am deeply honored by the trust and confidence President Trump has placed in me to lead the Department of Justice as our great nation's 88th Attorney General," Blanche said in a post on X. "I am grateful to the Senate for staying late to complete this process. God bless America," he added.
Leadership change
Trump dismissed former Attorney General Pam Bondi on April 2, appointing Blanche as acting attorney general. US media reports suggested the president was disappointed with Bondi's handling of the Epstein files.
