Seventh round of Lebanon-Israel talks in Rome focuses on border, security

A senior Lebanese official told Anadolu Agency that the first day of the seventh round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel concluded in Rome on Tuesday with parallel political and military sessions addressing border disputes and verification mechanisms for security arrangements.

At the political meeting, the Lebanese delegation presented its position on border issues, while the military session examined procedures to verify the implementation of security arrangements — including an Israeli withdrawal, the status of Hezbollah's weapons, and the identity of a third party to oversee the process, the official said. "The first day of the seventh round of negotiations with Israel concluded, with the afternoon discussions divided into two meetings, one military and one political," the official said, adding that discussions are scheduled to resume on Wednesday.

Ceasefire commitment unclear

"Lebanon has not yet received responses from Israel's political leadership regarding its commitment to the ceasefire," the official stated. The admission comes as the current round marks the second time Rome has hosted the negotiations, which are scheduled to last three days under US mediation.

Five previous rounds were held in Washington as part of the American-led negotiating process between the neighboring states, which have remained technically at war despite the recent ceasefire. The indirect talks aim to solidify security arrangements and address outstanding border demarcation issues.
