Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş will host the NATO parliamentary summit in Istanbul on June 28-29, bringing together parliamentary speakers and delegation heads from all 32 member states ahead of the July leaders’ summit in Ankara. President Erdoğan is expected to address participants.

Türkiye’s Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş will host the NATO parliamentary summit in Istanbul on June 28-29, the parliament announced on Sunday. The gathering will bring together parliamentary speakers and delegation heads from NATO’s 32 member states, along with NATO Parliamentary Assembly President Marcos Perestrello and other senior representatives, ahead of the leaders’ summit scheduled for July 7-8 in Ankara.

Parliamentary coordination

Organised by the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in cooperation with host countries since 2024, the summit serves as a platform for consultations and exchanges at the parliamentary level before NATO leaders meet. The Istanbul meeting will be the third such parliamentary summit, following previous gatherings in the United States and Belgium. The session is scheduled to be held at Dolmabahçe Palace on June 29.

Presidential participation and visit

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is expected to meet participants during an official luncheon and deliver remarks. Participants are also scheduled to visit the Baykar National Technology Center, where they will be briefed on the company’s defence technology projects and innovative initiatives. The Istanbul summit marks the first time Türkiye has hosted a NATO parliamentary gathering, underscoring Ankara’s central role in alliance affairs. The last NATO summit in Türkiye was held in Istanbul in 2004.
