Slovenia, Türkiye vow to strengthen strategic partnership

Slovenian Foreign Minister Tone Kajzer and Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Mehmet Kemal Bozay expressed interest in drafting a new action plan to deepen the strategic partnership and enhance economic cooperation during talks on the sidelines of the Dubrovnik Forum in Croatia, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
Slovenian Foreign Minister Tone Kajzer and Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Mehmet Kemal Bozay met on Friday on the sidelines of the Dubrovnik Forum in Croatia to discuss advancing bilateral cooperation and regional developments, according to the Slovenian Foreign Ministry.
The ministry announced on social media platform X that the officials "expressed interest in preparing a new action plan to further strengthen the Turkish-Slovenian strategic partnership and enhance economic cooperation." They also exchanged views on current foreign policy issues during the discussion, the ministry added.
Emphasis on diplomacy
Kajzer stressed the importance of peaceful resolution mechanisms in addressing international disputes, noting that sustainable security requires diplomatic engagement. "Dialogue, cooperation and diplomacy remain the only path to the peaceful resolution of conflicts," the Slovenian minister said, underscoring Ljubljana's commitment to multilateral solutions.
The talks come as both NATO allies seek to reinforce institutional ties and coordinate positions on regional security challenges facing Southeast Europe.
Partnership framework
The two countries established their strategic partnership in 2011 during a visit by then-Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor to Türkiye, creating a framework that has boosted political dialogue, economic cooperation, and people-to-people contacts between Ljubljana and Ankara.
The agreement was extended in 2024 with a new action plan covering the 2024-2026 period, and both sides are scheduled to mark the partnership's 15th anniversary in March 2026 with joint statements emphasizing shared goals of peace, stability, and prosperity.
