Türkiye’s parliament preserves scars of defeated July 15 coup

The Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) maintains two distinct memorials preserving the physical damage inflicted during the Fetullah Terrorist Organization’s (FETO) defeated July 15, 2016 coup attempt, allowing visitors to witness the untouched blast scars left when terrorists bombed Türkiye’s legislature a decade ago.

Preserved devastation

The first strike hit near the Dikmen Gate, where an obelisk-shaped memorial now stands within a glass structure enclosing the original impact site—reinforced but otherwise unchanged since the bombing. In the Hall of Honor, the second blast site displays damaged columns encased in thick glass alongside the "July 15 Memorial Stone" erected in the inner courtyard.

Living witness

These monuments draw visitors of all ages and foreign dignitaries seeking to comprehend the events that unfolded inside parliament during the failed putsch. The exhibits continue to display the physical traces of the coup attempt, serving as permanent testaments to the resistance that defeated the military takeover.
