Mohamed Salah is preparing to join Trabzonspor next season, ending a nine-year spell at Liverpool where he established himself as one of the club's all-time greats and the fourth-highest scorer in Premier League history. The 34-year-old Egyptian winger will swap Anfield for the Şenol Güneş Sports Complex in a move that brings one of Europe's most prolific forwards to Türkiye.
Salah arrived at Liverpool from Italian side Roma in 2017 for a reported €42 million and departed as the Merseyside club's third-highest goalscorer across all competitions with 257 goals. Of those strikes, 191 came in the Premier League alongside 48 in the UEFA Champions League, while he also lifted two league titles, one European crown, and the FIFA Club World Cup during a trophy-laden tenure under former manager Jurgen Klopp. Individually, the forward claimed four Premier League Golden Boot awards and was named Player of the Year on two occasions.
From Port Said to Anfield
Born in Nagrig in 1992, Salah began his career with Al Mokawloon before the Port Said Stadium disaster on February 1, 2012, forced the cancellation of the Egyptian Premier League season and altered the trajectory of his career. The tragedy, which killed dozens of football supporters during a match between Al Ahly and Al Masry, left Salah without competitive football until a fundraising friendly between Egypt's Under-23 side and Swiss club Basel presented an opportunity to impress. The winger scored twice in a 4-3 victory, earned a contract with the Swiss champions, and lifted two league titles before stints at Chelsea, Fiorentina, and Roma.
The Egyptian international played a pivotal role in ending Liverpool's 30-year wait for a domestic league title and secured the 2019 UEFA Champions League after three finals in five seasons. Off the pitch, Salah has funded numerous charitable projects in his homeland and recently donated to Gaza relief efforts through the Egyptian Red Crescent, according to the organization's executive director Rami El-Nazar.
