The US military has struck more than 80 Iranian targets in a new round of retaliatory strikes, including air defence systems, command networks, coastal radar sites, and over 60 IRGC boats. The operation was conducted in response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
The US military announced late Tuesday that it had completed a new round of retaliatory strikes against Iran, hitting more than 80 targets in response to Tehran's latest attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces struck Iranian air defence systems, command-and-control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 small boats belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in and around the waterway.
CENTCOM’s warning and regional reactions
CENTCOM said the strikes were conducted "as an immediate response" and were aimed at degrading "Iran's ability to continue attacking international commerce." The command added that US forces "remain postured and prepared to hold Iran accountable when the (ceasefire) agreement is not adhered to or obeyed." Iranian state media reported explosions in several areas of southern Iran early Wednesday. Qatar summoned Iran's deputy ambassador to protest the attack on a Qatari-owned vessel near the strait, though Iran rejected the accusation, saying vessels using uncoordinated routes "expose themselves to risks."
