Trump says Iranian funds will be used exclusively to buy US goods

President Trump announced that any funds released by the US Treasury will be held in escrow and strictly controlled, limited to purchases of American-made humanitarian goods—particularly corn, wheat, and medical supplies. He said the funds would support US farmers while addressing Iran’s humanitarian crisis. The Treasury issued a temporary 60-day license for Iranian oil sales.
US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that any Iranian funds released by the Treasury Department will be held in escrow under US control and used exclusively for the purchase of American-made humanitarian goods. “The money and/or sanctions that the U.S. Treasury is releasing goes into escrow, controlled by the U.S.A., and will be used for the purchase of food and medical supplies, exclusively from the United States,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He noted that the funds would support American farmers through the export of corn, wheat, and soybeans, which he said “are desperately needed” by Iran due to a humanitarian crisis.
Oil sales and trade flows
The directive follows the Treasury Department’s issuance of a temporary 60-day license for Iranian oil sales as part of a new nuclear framework. In a separate post, Trump claimed that a record-breaking 19 million barrels of oil flowed through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, asserting that prices “tumble” and the world becomes safer. The announcement marks a significant shift in US policy toward Iran, allowing limited oil exports while ensuring that proceeds are channeled back to American farmers and medical suppliers.
