Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif (2nd R) and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir (R) meet with Parliament Speaker of Iran Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf (2nd L) and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Abbas Araghchi (L) on the sidelines of the U.S.-Iran technical-level peace talks in Burgenstock, Switzerland on June 21, 2026.

Iran's delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf departed Switzerland for Tehran on Monday after nearly 18 hours of intensive negotiations with US officials, as mediators cited "encouraging progress" in a "positive and constructive atmosphere" and technical teams prepared to resume talks later this week.

Iran's delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf left Switzerland for Tehran on Monday after concluding nearly 18 hours of intensive negotiations with US officials at the Lake Lucerne Summit in Burgenstock, according to state-run IRIB news. Qalibaf, who serves as Tehran's chief negotiator, departed alongside senior aides as the high-stakes talks wrapped up.

Mediators cite progress

Qatar and Pakistan, serving as mediators, characterized the discussions as having occurred in a "positive and constructive atmosphere" that yielded "encouraging progress" toward resolving long-standing disputes. The two nations have facilitated communications between Washington and Tehran throughout the latest diplomatic initiative.

Roadmap established

The parties agreed to establish several institutional mechanisms aimed at advancing negotiations, including the formation of a High-Level Committee and specialized technical working groups to handle specific implementation details. Negotiators also adopted a 60-day roadmap designed to structure progress toward a comprehensive agreement, according to the joint statement.

Technical talks are expected to continue later this week to address remaining differences, with working groups focusing on granular aspects of the potential deal. The continuation of lower-level discussions indicates that while broad frameworks have been established, substantial technical work remains before a final accord can be finalized.
