Erdoğan, Pezeshkian discuss regional peace and bilateral ties

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a phone call to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments. Erdoğan welcomed the US-Iran understanding, offered Türkiye’s support for the process, and stressed the need for steps to strengthen regional peace.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke by phone with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday, discussing bilateral relations alongside regional and global developments, according to a statement from Türkiye’s Communications Directorate . Erdoğan welcomed the understanding reached between Iran and the United States, stating that Türkiye would provide all possible support to help ensure the process concludes peacefully .

Vigilance against sabotage

During the call, Erdoğan stressed the importance of acting carefully against those seeking to sabotage the talks . He noted that taking steps to strengthen regional peace in the new period is an important and necessary undertaking, adding that Türkiye would work to help establish it . The Turkish president also underscored that Ankara would continue taking steps to improve trade, financial, and energy cooperation with Iran .

Iranian commitment to diplomacy

For his part, Pezeshkian said Iran does not seek war and is ready to continue diplomacy with the US under international law . He appreciated the role played by regional countries, especially Pakistan and Turkey, in facilitating the memorandum of understanding. Pezeshkian also expressed readiness to form an intergovernmental committee to help expand economic relations between the two neighbours . The call follows the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which aims to end the US-Israeli war on Iran and reopen the Strait of Hormuz .
