President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Romanian President Nicușor Dan in Istanbul on Saturday, following the handover of a patrol vessel to the Romanian Naval Forces Command. The meeting took place at the Istanbul Shipyard Command, according to the Turkish Presidency. The closed-door talks were attended by National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi, Chief of the General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, and Chief Adviser on Security and Foreign Policy Ambassador Akif Çağatay Kılıç.
Defence cooperation
The meeting came shortly after the delivery ceremony of the Offshore Patrol Vessel TCG Akhisar/OPV “CAm. Roman” to Romania, marking the first time Türkiye exported a warship to a NATO and EU member state. Erdoğan and Dan discussed bilateral relations, defence cooperation, and regional security. The Romanian president’s presence underscores the growing strategic partnership between Ankara and Bucharest.

Romania is a key NATO ally on the Black Sea, and its cooperation with Türkiye includes joint mine‑clearing operations and Black Sea security initiatives.
