Iran envoy says 'positive stride' taking shape to end war with US

Iran's ambassador to Pakistan said Saturday that a "positive stride" is taking shape to end the war with the United States, provided Washington demonstrates adequate commitment, crediting Tehran's dignity and Islamabad's mediation efforts for the progress.
Diplomatic Momentum
Raza Amiri Moghadam, Iran's ambassador to Pakistan, said Saturday that a "positive stride" is emerging toward ending the war with the United States, contingent on Washington's commitment to the process. In a post on the social media platform X, he expressed "conservative optimism" regarding the trajectory of negotiations, attributing the progress to Iran's principled stance, the resilience of its armed forces, and the resistance of the Iranian people.
Moghadam also acknowledged the "dedicated endeavours" of Pakistani mediators in facilitating the dialogue between Tehran and Washington. His remarks came after Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi telephoned the envoy to congratulate him on the outcomes of recent negotiations involving Iranian officials, expressing hope that Islamabad's mediation would yield lasting regional peace.
Pakistani Mediation
The diplomatic activity follows a visit to Tehran by Pakistan's Army Chief Field Marshall Asim Munir, who arrived Friday evening for his second trip to the Iranian capital in recent weeks. Munir held separate meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Bagher Qalibaf, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss a draft "temporary" agreement aimed at ending the conflict.

The interim accord is expected to be signed by Washington and Tehran by Sunday, according to Pakistani government sources familiar with the negotiations. The war began on February 28 when the US and Israel launched military action against Iran, prompting retaliation and regional escalation that has drawn in mediators including Pakistan to secure a ceasefire.
